WaterDataRocks Phone App Help and Guidance
Deleting Your Account
To delete your account, please either:
1) Email waterdatarocks@groundwater-relief.org and request for us to delete your account.
2) Login to the online dashboard (http://app.waterdatarocks.org/) using the same credentials as for your account on the phone app. Select Your Account (top right corner) and select Delete Account.
Downloading Pre-Existing Data
- Once the user has downloaded the app, logged in and selected your country of residence, they will need to download any pre-existing data that has been uploaded by other users for their country of residence. It is also recommended to periodically download data onto the app during use, as there may be changes or additions to information you have access to as other users add and update water points and readings. We recommended checking data downloads every fortnight to 1 month as a minimum.
- To do this, select the 'Upload and Download' button from the app home screen, then select 'Download'. This will take you to the 'Download Search' screen.
- If required, refine your search by owner, site type, data and distance from current location. Select 'search'. This will take you to 'Search Results' screen.
- Here, you have the option to refine which sites and data types you would like to download. This includes Site information, site photos and readings for each water point. Check the boxes for the data and sites you wish to download, once they are highlighted in colour, they can be downloaded. Select 'download'
- Once all sites and readings have downloaded successfully, you will be notified. This data will now be available to view on the WaterDataRocks phone app under the 'Add New Reading' option of the home screen.
- Please note, it is recommended to download sites and readings in a strong WiFi connection for ease and to minimise the use of mobile data.
Uploading New Data
- To ensure that any water points or water level readings you have input into the app are available on the online dashboard or for other users within your affiliation/country of residence, you must choose to upload all data via the phone app. Data cannot be viewed either within the Online Dashboard or by other users unless it has been uploaded.
- To do this, select the 'Upload and Download' button from the app home screen, then select 'Upload'. If all your data is already uploaded, when you select 'Upload' you will receive a notification stating 'There is no data to upload'.
- If there is data to upload, you will be taken to the 'Upload Sites and Readings' screen, where you can select which data you wish to upload in the form of site information, site photo and readings for each water point. It is recommended to upload all new data for all sites, so that these are saved to the Online Dashboard. Select 'upload'.
- Once all sites and readings have uploaded successfully to the WaterDataRocks database, you will be notified on your app screen.
- Please note, it is recommended to upload sites and readings in a strong WiFi connection for ease and to minimise the use of mobile data.
Add New Water Point
- Select 'Add New Water Point' from the app home screen
- Select which type of water point you want to add from the list (pumping well, observation well, surface water point)
- Give your new water point an ID (name), description, datum height, borehole depth and pump depth as required. Your phone will automatically identify the correct GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude) and time/date, although these can be changed manually if you are adding water points remotely.
- Take a photo of your water point or select a pre-existing image from your camera roll. You must now indicate the datum point on your image, from which water level measurements are to be taken from, which should match the datum height identified for this water point. To do this, simply tap on the image where you would like to indicate the datum, and a red dot will appear. This red dot represents the datum. Click the save icon, to save the datum for this water point to enable all future users to take measurements from this location.
- If you are linked to an Affiliation, you should identify which Affiliation this water point is associated with. If the water point has no affiliation, this step can be skipped.
Add New Water Level Reading
- Select 'Add New Reading' from the app home screen. This will direct you to the List View of pre-existing water points, which are colour coded by water point type. From this screen, it is possible to navigate between List View and Map View.
- Select the water point which you want to add a new water level reading for. You will then be able to View previous readings, or add a new reading.
- Select 'New Reading'.
- Use the water point image to identify the datum point that you should collect the water level measurement from. Measure your water level from this datum point.
- Record your measured water level in the 'Water Depth' column and add any comments.
- Your phone will automatically select the current time and date of your measurement. IF you are adding data post- data collection, then you must amend the time and date to reflect the time data was collected.
- Select the save icon
Viewing Water Level Data via the Phone App
- Select 'Add New Reading' from the app home screen. This will direct you to the List View of pre-existing water points, which are colour coded by water point type. From this screen, it is possible to navigate between List View and Map View.
- Select the water point which you would like to view the pre-existing water level data for.
- Select 'View Readings'.
- The default screen is a table view of recorded water levels and times. To view the data as a graph, select 'View Data as Graph'.
- The graph displays a time-series of water level readings (grey) in reference to the total depth of the borehole (red) and the pump depth (blue). This allows the user to assess water levels against these items to understand if the pump may need lowered or if water level may drop below the total depth of the borehole, helping to inform future decisions at that water point.
- Underneath the graph, there is a link to the online visualisation. This link opens that data into the web browser and will require the user to login. To view all data in the Online Dashboard, please follow the guidance below.
Viewing Water Level Data via the Online Dashboard
- The Online Dashboard can be viewed at http://apptest.waterdatarocks.org/ using the same login information as the WaterDataRocks user login. This dashboard is a cloud based portal where all data can be viewed online, away from the phone app. Here you can view data you have access to by both Country and Affiliation.
- To view data, select 'Go to affiliations' for your country of choice. This will bring up all affiliations you have within that country.
- Select 'Go to monitoring points' to view the water points for the selected affiliation within your country of choice.
- Each individual ground or surface water point within that affiliation can be viewed as their own separate location. Water points with associated water level data have the option to 'Go to view chart'. Select this to open up a time series graph displaying recorded water levels against pump depth and total borehole depth.
- Water points with no recorded water levels will have a greyed out icon stating 'empty data'.
- Currently there is no option for Operators to edit or delete data here. Please contact help@groundwater-relief.org if you spot any records which require editing or deleting.
