Social and Environmental
Understanding the social, economic, behavioural and indigenous interactions between communities and groundwater. Groundwater Relief recognises that technical groundwater investigations need to be coupled with and built upon from a social, economic, behavioural and indigenous perspective. We work to integrate social sciences into hydrogeological investigations to ensure that groundwater supply meets the needs of the users and requirements for livelihood, economic development and poverty reduction.
Socio-economic Assessments
Socio-economic surveys are designed to gather information on the water needs, demands and uses of those dependent on groundwater supplies. Socio-economic surveys and data visualisation platforms can support those involved in the provision of water supply to direct groundwater resources to those experiencing high levels of water insecurity.
Groundwater Relief conducted a socio-economic survey covering the Teknaf Union in Bangladesh to understand the water needs and demands of the hosting and refugee communities in the dry and rainy seasons. The survey also built an understanding of the community's ability and willingness to pay. The data collected is made available on a visualisation platform which can be accessed through this link.
