In late 2015, GOAL were working with the Sierra Leone Department of Water Resourcesto provide a groundwater supply to 11 different health facilities and hospitals.
Following an assessment Groundwater Relief supported GOAL with developing the capacity of the Water Resource Department with siting boreholes. Groundwater Releif supported the recruitment of two hydrogeologist consultants to train the Water Resource Department team and develop their capacity in the usage of geophysical equipment to aid borehole siting. It is understood that following this work all the boreholes sited by the Water Resource Department were drilled successfully.
As GOAL we initially engaged with Groundwater Relief (formerly HWB-UK) in Sierra Leone during the opening of the GOAL operated 100-bed Ebola Treatment Centre (ETC). This involved a desk study of the ETC site and remote support on drilling and pump testing to ensure we had achieved the most efficient groundwater solution for the centre.
Most recently we have engaged Groundwater Relief to provide hydrogeological and geophysical support for GOAL’s project in delivering water to 11 hospitals and health centres, including the capacity building of a government geophysics team. We have been consistently impressed with the support, professionalism and responsiveness of Groundwater Relief and see the partnership as one of long term collaboration in delivering technical skills that we do not have within the organisation.
